NUGGET QUOTES FROM MY NEW UPCOMING BOOK, THE REAL JESUS

“You thought I was altogether as thyself”The Psalms

“It seems to me that, if we get one look at Christ in His love and beauty, this world and its pleasures will look very small to us.” ~D.L. Moody~

“Much of our difficulty as seeking Christians stems from our unwillingness to take God as He is and adjust our lives accordingly. We insist upon trying to modify Him and to bring Him nearer to our own image.” ~A.W. Tozer~

“When we see Jesus as He is, glorious and worthy of our deepest loyalties and affections, deserving of our total focus and supreme attention; we will catch fire inwardly and burn with holy fear, and a holy hunger for the Word will grip our hearts, and we will proclaim Him as He is.” ~Anonymous~

“There is a God we want, and there is a God who is… and they are not the same God.” ~Patrick Morley~

“As a child, I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene. No one can read the gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.” ~Albert Einstein~ Saturday Evening Post, Oct. 26, 1929

“The wicked have fashioned a god who will not hold them accountable.” ~Carter Conlon~

“It is a painful process to discover that one has invested not in Jesus, but in one’s theology about Jesus.” ~Anonymous~

“Too many Christians want a manageable, domesticated Jesus who makes no demands on their time, money, words, social life, and sexuality. In the midst of this great and growing deception, God is looking for uncompromising believers who are committed to proclaiming the truth of the gospel and not the counterfeit Jesus of Western Culture.” ~Anonymous~

“Too many of us have constructed a “god in a box,” a god whose job is merely to pander to our needs, desires, and ambitions.” ~Anonymous~

“We offer a motivational, pep-talk, feel-good, self-help, personal- empowerment Jesus rather than the Jesus of the Scriptures, and, in doing so, we damn our hearers rather than deliver them.” ~Dr. Michael L. Brown~

“Many are convinced they are faithful Bible believers but, in fact, worship a different Jesus — one contracted from a “revelation” they supposedly received from the latest “Christian” cultural fad or their favorite celebrity superstar preacher — an idolatrous, fantasy, and fictitious Jesus constructed subjectively in their own minds and built upon the sentiment of American values. Sooner or later we are going to have to come to grips with the Person and ethics of Jesus Christ and get serious about who He really is.” ~Dr. Stephen Crosby~

“Sadly, I think many in the community of believers cling to an Americanized gospel which equates what is biblically true and reliable with being part and parcel of various right-wing political agendas. Actually, Christianity itself in the US and many other nations has been interpreted (and by virtue of this) rewritten to gel with sentiments and ideas that actually run contrary to what the Messiah taught and advocated (Torah-based Judaism), e.g., unbridled capitalism and the greed it is predicated on and the corruption it engenders and promotes. I dare say if Yeshua HaMashiach physically visited most American churches, He would not recognize what was being taught and advocated as being remotely like what He articulated and lived.” ~Dr. Anthony G. Payne~

MAN KEEPS PUTTING UP RESTRICTIONS BUT I WANT TO MOVE

I was watching a YouTube video recently with the late Kenneth E. Hagin sharing his calling about how God told him to preach and carry the message of faith to the Church several decades ago. Through many hardships he obeyed that call and eventually prospered in it. Because of His obedience to God’s mandate for his ministry, millions of people have been blessed by his life, example, and message. He preached and taught on many other topics, but faith in God’s Word was his primary message for much of his life.

One time someone asked him how it was that he just seemed to spring up out of nowhere and thrust on to the national and international scene. In other words, what was the secret to his success. Very humbly he replied: “All I’ve ever done is obey the written Word of God and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in my life.”

Listen to that simple wisdom. If we do the same, we will also fulfill God’s plan and purpose for our lives. Finding God’s plan and purpose for your life should be a priority.

WHAT THE LORD TOLD US: THE MOVE – THE MESSAGE – THE MINISTRY

About four years ago while on an overseas ministry trip to Colombia, SA the Spirit of God spoke to us in a similar fashion in prayer concerning His plan and purpose for the next phase of our own lives and ministry. He said for us it was no longer just about traveling with a message like we had for years, but that now the MOVE of God was to be first, then the MESSAGE, and then the MINISTRY. I asked the Lord what He meant by the MOVE, and He said it meant we are to stay filled with His Word and Spirit, and in prayer receive God’s wisdom for the places and people He sends us to. He told us that we are to look for His MOVE everywhere we go, and to wait on Him for  what He wants to highlight and manifest during our ministration in the specific places He sends us to.

Here is how the Lord explained it to our hearts:

“It is My Holy Spirit that makes everything new, fresh, and alive again. The revival and excitement has waned in many places and in many churches. My leaders and My people must once again allow the Holy Spirit to bring new life and freshness, or things will continue to become hard. This hardness affects marriages, families, work, and ministry. The Holy Spirit must be your life. He must be the life of My Church and My people. Man keeps putting up restrictions, but I want to move.

My people must experience the joy of their salvation. The excitement for hearing the Word, and meeting together, and worship, and winning souls must be restored. They must yield to Him again so that fresh life can return. The button of people’s hearts must be touched.

In the Spirit your weapons are not carnal. There is no greater power than the Spirit of truth. Restrictions on the Holy Spirit always starts with men and then the enemy comes in and creates strongholds. The moving of My Spirit is the only thing that deals with strongholds (it’s not by might or power, but by the Spirit of the Lord). The devil has used pretty things and entrapments that have taken men another way.

Remember what I’ve done in the nations. Remember how liberty and power came to ________.

A door is opened in the Spirit when you follow the Holy Spirit. When you move in the Spirit then life and glory are allowed to come in. There’s been a weariness in My body. Even My servant ______ was prompted to tell the so called faith churches the great need of the Holy Spirit – churches who knew the Word but were lacking the fullness of My Spirit. Familiar spirits and falsehood result from the lack of the life and liberty of My Spirit. My apostle Paul was a learned man but yet put no confidence in his own wisdom (1 Cor. 2:4-5).

Your obedience to move with the Holy Spirit will open up a demonstration for a protection for pastors and the people. There will be a bearing witness for all who know My Spirit and they will be one. There are strongholds in men’s minds, but the demonstration of My Spirit will open up men’s minds to receive.

Walk in your authority as My ambassadors and stand with WHO has sent you, refusing to bow down to men or devils. You must fight for who you are now in the Spirit and not be concerned about whether you fit in or not. I will connect you with the people who need what you carry.

The nations need the move of the Spirit taught and demonstrated. First the MOVE, then the MESSAGE, and then the MINISTRY.”

That’s quite a word, and quite a responsibility to carry. The success of it is in the obedience of it and staying strong in the Word and prayer (Acts 6:4), and yielding to the Holy Spirit. By God’s grace, we are endeavoring to do our part and cooperate with the Holy Spirit the best we know how.

Of course, we cannot manufacture any of this on our own. It happens by the will of the Spirit and according to the faith and expectation of God’s people. We’ve received many wonderful reports and testimonies from pastors, and people God has sent us to in these past four years. Reports range from undeniable healings, to powerful infillings of the Holy Ghost, to answers to prayer, to wisdom and direction given to a church, a city, and even a nation YouTube .

Here is a glowing testimony of what the Lord did in one church:

“In early 2016 we were introduced to Bert Farias’ books and couldn’t read them fast enough because they really spoke to our hearts. Being pastors, we handed them out to our church leaders, primarily (at that time) Prayer: The Language of the Spirit and The Real Spirit of Revival.  An immediate hunger for a move of God was sparked in them and our monthly church prayer went to weekly prayer. Our people have read nearly all of his books since then. (Bert’s Books

We were blessed to be able to bring Bert & Carolyn here in September 2016 and they left a deposit in our church that has only grown and still continues today. Our pray-ers pray in a new place in the Spirit, people are in the Word like never before, with many operating in new giftings and boldness. At the meetings, one 72-old woman received new knees and now shovels snow and hauls wood!!

And the healings continue…a man healed while in Mexico of a large blood clot in his leg (then he got on the plane and flew home!!!), one woman healed of advanced asthma/COPD, a man healed of chronic pain and totally off Vicodin and morphine.

Something changed in the spirit realm when Bert & Carolyn came. Our pray-ers can’t wait to get to prayer now. They are all operating at a different level and truly have an “exaggerated expectation” as Bert spoke over us. The presence of the Holy Spirit is so strong during worship, our pastor teaches with a new anointing, and we are so anticipating Bert & Carolyn’s return in May!”

Pastors Randy & Sue LeBlanc, NorthPointe Church, Bend, Oregon

Praise God! Well, that testimony encouraged us greatly in our calling to continue to obey God, especially after enduring a season of hardship and doubtful reasonings. We are very grateful and give God all the glory. We know it is the Lord working with us, and we can do nothing without Him. Many thanks to the faithful core of friends and followers who love us, pray for us, and support us.

Carolyn and I travel and minister in large and small churches, in homes, and occasionally in conferences overseas. We also host and participate in Holy Ghost Forums with other Ephesians 4:11 ministry gifts (Sample). If you desire the wisdom of God for your church and spiritual body, and are hungry for the move of the Holy Spirit, feel free to contact us to host a ministry time or forum in your church or area.

PROPHETIC UTTERANCE: MOSES AND JOSHUA

“For Joshua heard the commandments I gave to My servant Moses, yes, and he listened, but he also put himself in a place where he was able to see and hear what I was doing. And that’s why I have shown you this over and over and over again because it does not come through just hearing about My moves and manifestations. It doesn’t just come from hearing of historic moves and what I’ve done through men and women of old. It comes through being in a place where I am and where those that know Me are moving with Me.

And so, this is what you bring forth, and you share and you sow. For even as it was with you, and how I showed you and brought you to a man of God who moved with My Spirit, and how you were activated in the Spirit….yes, even as you, Carolyn, saw and experienced and came into a greater working of tongues and interpretation, and even the interpretation you stepped into was because you were put in a place where I was present and where I was moving.

And so you must show and demonstrate, and that is why it is important for you to go to these places and move in the Spirit, because they might not even understand, even as you yourself did not understand right away, but yes, you recognized Me and yes, you knew the Spirit was upon him whom I had shown you— yes, you saw it on him, and you immediately bore witness that I was with him.

And so it is when you move in the Spirit in these places I’ve called you to — they will recognize and understand that I am with you, and they, too will be activated in the gifts.

And so it was such, and so it has been, that even My servant _________ you are bringing here to move and to show in a greater demonstration of that which you have even known — so he is coming to stir up the gifts of those in this place and those that minister by My grace.

For they shall be activated, oh yes, and even as you have heard of the reports coming now back from _______________ of the things that I am doing and moving because you were there, and as you demonstrated who I was with you, they were activated into those things that I have called them into now.

So your example is in My Word with Joshua and Moses and how he saw Me in the midst of My servant Moses, so is it to be in these forums and in these ordained places that I’m taking you.

They will see and recognize the Spirit of God in and among you.”

The Spirit of God is referring to our upcoming Holy Ghost Forum in Salem, NH when He mentions His servant. Details and registration are here on our website: holy-fire.org

We hope you can make plans to attend, especially those in the New England region. This is a very strategic and sacred gathering led by a seasoned panel of ministers where the Holy Ghost will have full reign.

LET’S GO TO HELL: THE REAL EASTER STORY

Many Christians who celebrate Passover and the death of Christ have no idea or understanding of the depths of what they are celebrating. Some only see the events surrounding Christ’s death, burial, resurrection, and ascension through a historical perspective. To them, these aspects are only a creed, a dogma and a story whose realities are dimmed by a lack of revelation.

There are some awe-inspiring truths surrounding the death of Jesus Christ. In a real sense Jesus went through the same awful experience that a sinner must go through who dies without God. He became sin and was forsaken by God. When He died He did not ascend to heaven into the presence of the Father, but He descended into hades.

On the cross He told one of the criminals who was crucified beside Him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). In Old Testament times paradise was known as Abraham’s bosom, which was situated in the heart of the earth. It was below, not above.

Every Old Testament partriarch, prophet and king testified to this. “For I shall go down into the grave (hades) to my son in mourning” (Gen. 37:35). It was only after the resurrection and the establishment of the New Covenant in Christ’s blood that Paradise was transferred or translocated to the third heaven. “And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter” (2 Cor. 12:3-4).

When Jesus died, His spirit left His body and descended into the heart of the earth. The Bible says He also preached to the spirits in prison. “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waitedin the days of Noah … “ (1 Pet. 3:18-20).

So first, Jesus told the criminal on the cross that he would be with him in paradise, and then here, it says that Jesus preached to the disobedient spirits in prison. In other words, it is pretty clear that Jesus Christ appeared and ministered in both compartments of hades.

If you will recall the account Jesus told in Luke 16 of the rich man and Lazarus, He spoke of those two compartments that were separated by a great gulf. Jesus was the first human being who was able to cross over into both of them. While there He seized the keys of hades and death. Oh glory to God!

“I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death” (Rev. 1:18).

This verse is the reason Christ was able to go from one compartment of hades to the other. He could commune with the righteous where Abraham, Lazarus, and the Old Testament saints were, and He could cross over to the other compartment where the rich man and the disobedient spirits were. He overcame Satan and stripped him of his authority and took back the keys of hades and death. This is why I shout!

After three days when Jesus Christ finally ascended He led captivity captive. In other words, He didn’t ascend alone. He took the captives who were in the righteous compartment of hades and ascended up with them into the presence of God in the third heaven where paradise now was.

Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men. (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things)” (Eph. 4:8-10).

But before ascending into the immediate presence of God He made a stop on the earth and displayed His marvelous wisdom and grace. He not only announced His resurrection and ascension to Mary (John 20:17), commissioning her to go and tell His other disciples the great and joyful news, but many other Old Testament saints also arose with Him and came out of their graves. Then they went into Jerusalem and appeared to many. Hallelujah!

“Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many” (Matt. 27:51-53).

This is spectacular! The whole story must be told. Now at death all believers ascend immediately into the presence of God. Hell and death have been defeated! We are free!

In the light of Christ’s invisible journey, perhaps now these words of Paul will have deeper meaning:

“So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15:54-55).

As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us remember the reality of these events. And that is why I don’t look for the Easter bunny and hunt for Easter eggs.

Christ has risen!

ARE YOU SPIRITUALLY DEFICIENT AND DEPLETED?

I’ve been pretty busy lately – whether it be traveling and preaching, writing articles, finishing another book, recording and filming for our Arabic broadcast, planning for our upcoming Holy Ghost Forum, corresponding with partners, friends, pastors and churches, running errands, working on other projects, etc. that I recently started sensing an uneasiness in my spirit. One day I realized I was getting spiritually deficient. Rarely have I been in this position throughout the many years of ministry. For me, it’s a dangerous place, and the uneasiness served as a warning. I will not live and minister from a position of spiritual depletion. Neither should any minister.

Years ago I was looking at the traveling and preaching itinerary of a minister colleague. He was going everywhere – to cities, to nations, and doing conferences, while overseeing a large ministry. I knew his marriage needed help. His wife wasn’t happy. She was being neglected. But their ministry had become a machine that needed to be kept running. Gradually, as I’ve observed such ministries over the years, I notice a decrease in the true anointing of the Spirit, and a greater focus on money. Eventually I see the tail wagging the dog instead of the dog wagging the tail as ministry becomes the means for paying for all their projects, some of which the Lord never directed them to do. If men don’t keep their egos sanctified they push and push to maintain the machine they created. This is the reason ministers must stay in constant prayer and in a sanctified state.

“but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4).

One minister said he’d rather burn out than rust out. I don’t believe you need to do either one. You can either work hard or work smart. You can trust the Lord or trust in your own efforts. You can work with the wisdom of man or with the wisdom of God. I refuse to live on what some people call “the edge” – always looking to do more, build more, accomplish more, and run around half the time like a chicken with its head cut off. One day when you finally wake up, look around, and evaluate everything, you will realize the futility of it all and that you spent more time laboring in the works of man than in the works of God. I’m all for laboring in the Lord and getting the gospel out, but God has a plan, a way, and a time and season to do it. And His yoke and burden won’t kill you, for it is easy and light.

As a personal example, for years I’d raise funds to go on mission trips. And I still believe in going on mission trips. But often I’d come home spiritually drained, physically tired, mentally exhausted, with no offerings from my labors in these poorer countries. I told the Lord that I wasn’t going to beat the bushes any more to raise funds to do His work. If He didn’t move on hearts to give, then I wouldn’t go. We don’t oversee a local church where we can draw on funds to travel at any time and anywhere a door opens. From now on He’d have to pay for whatever He was authoring. I’ve been in a rest ever since making that decision. I’m glad to report that He’s been faithful to His own plan and purpose, not ours.

Two things are necessary when you’re feeling depleted spiritually, whether in ministry, or in business, or just life.

1. First, rest and relaxation is a necessary part of replenishing your soul and body. Your soul and your body need rest. I don’t get any rest when I spend excessive amounts of time on my phone, or computer, or with lots of people. To get proper rest, I need to go to the mountains, the woods, a river or lake, back in nature somewhere, away from the hustle and bustle of life. I don’t need to travel long distances to do this. I can go for long walks in nature and get that. Do whatever gives your soul rest.

2. Secondly, play. Play is any sort of recreation or fun activity that releases your mind from the rut and routine of the daily grind. For me, I like to watch ball games. Being from Boston I have opportunities to watch my sports teams compete. On the other hand, I have to be careful sports don’t become a distraction in my life, where my spiritual life suffers.

Ministers and parents that have young children are some of the most spiritually, physically, and emotionally depleted people I know of. Consider getting a baby sitter once in awhile and go out alone with your spouse. Let Grandma have the kids and go away for a whole weekend. If she or a good friend can take them for an entire week, go on vacation with your spouse without the kids.

3. Thirdly, and most importantly, waiting on the Lord through prayer and the Word replenishes your spirit. Feeding your spirit on the Word and drinking from the presence of God is of the highest priority. A strong spirit is what sustains your soul and body. More than rest and recreation for your soul and body, you need to learn to train your spirit to enter into the joy and inward leisure of the Lord. Be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18)! That is one of the greatest Biblical commands. Your soul and body respond to the life that fills your spirit.

Rest, play, pray are what you do to replenish your spirit, soul, and body.

PRAYER, THE ACTIVATION OF MINISTRY GIFTS, AND WHAT EQUIPPING THE SAINTS REALLY MEANS

There we were in an outdoor courtyard in Holland, Europe standing with two giants of the faith. They suggested we pray together, and as soon as we began, the hand of the Lord came mightily upon Carolyn. She wailed and travailed in heavy intercession and then received revelation from the Spirit of God.

Here’s the revelation:

The spirit of prayer came upon Carolyn strongly because Ephesians 4:11 ministry gifts were present. Since then Carolyn has observed that the activation of the spirit of prayer in her is affected by those she prays with. When true pray-ers gather with ministry gifts to pray, there is a greater power and revelation released upon both the pray-ers and the ministry gifts. This was the effect on Finney when he prayed with Nash. At times there would be one or two other seasoned people of prayer who would also join Nash. The importance of  associations like this cannot be underestimated for it is dynamic in its workings.

PASTORS

Pastors need to have a working understanding of this operation. If not, their seasoned pray-ers could become frustrated. It can be grievous to open a door of utterance through prayer and not see the fruit of it because pastors don’t step over that threshold.  Do you know why? Because they don’t pray themselves, and they don’t pray with the pray-ers.

Pastors should be the ones training their people to pray. Train them to understand the anointing and the manifestation of the Spirit of God in prayer, and then also in your corporate gatherings. Once they are trained, you will find that your load will be much lighter because they will help you carry the work of God in prayer. Be wise and recognize the pray-ers and the young ministry gifts that may already be budding in your midst. Pray with them and teach them to pray.

JESUS TAUGHT HIS DISCIPLES TO PRAY

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” (Lk. 11:1)

This is an amazing verse. It seems that the disciples were present, or in close proximity, when Jesus was praying, because when He finished praying, they asked Him to teach them to pray. This reminds me of my Bible school days when the late Kenneth E. Hagin, a father in the faith, would pray on the platform in one of his meetings or seminars. Sometimes a spirit of prayer would come on him, and he would begin to intercede, or move into conversational prayer with the Lord. As a young Bible school student, I’d be in my seat listening ever so closely with such a hunger in my heart to know God like he did and learn to pray like he prayed. Pastors and ministers, please listen carefully to me: Teaching people to pray by precept and example is the greatest thing we could ever do in ministry.

PRAY-ERS

Now here is a word of warning for praying people. You need to know that there’s no place for pride and arrogance in trying to manipulate your pastor into what you think he should do or what you think should happen. This is a form of witchcraft and will kill the anointing and what God wants to do. Stay in your place of prayer and keep the anointing strong through your humility. And don’t ever criticize your pastor, or anyone you’re praying for, for that matter, because you will nullify the effects of your prayers.

MY WIFE AND I

My wife is a woman of prayer, but we also pray together regularly. Her prayers activate the grace of God in me. Wisdom and revelation are given to me in our prayer times together. I am not threatened by the authority she carries in prayer. Knowing that we are to help one another and are stronger together, we are both secure in our places. I humorously refer to her as my mother Nash (although I’m serious).

This place of agreement is the place of power. Even if other things are awry in a church and just not quite right, if you have the power of God in manifestation through prayer, it will take care of a thousand concerns. God has a way of taking care of things when we pray, and there is a divine protection that is made available and flows from the operations of true prayer.

THE REAL EQUIPPING OF THE SAINTS STARTS WITH PRAYER

There are churches in this hour that have a great grace on them to be exceedingly fruitful and multiply, and that means that there are pray-ers and ministry gifts already in place there working together in prayer and in the corporate anointing.

Have you ever come forth from a corporate assembly when the power and presence of God were in such manifestation that it ignited you and affected you for days and weeks after? That’s where the true equipping happens – in the Spirit.

I’m reminded of the many people that have been ignited and equipped in some of our meetings over the years. One that comes to mind is of a young woman who could not stop weeping during the message being preached. Divine utterances were coming through me with such force  that she began to travail in the Spirit. She was carrying a love for lost souls in her heart and was stirred from the anointing that was present and the prophetic utterances coming forth for the church. All these things were set on fire in prayer beforehand when my wife and I prayed together about these meetings. This is what happens when prayer is connected to a ministry gift.

There is training that must be done in these things. The release of the impartations from the Spirit of God can be so powerful that it doesn’t leave when people walk out the door. The effect of the utterances and the manifestation of the Spirit of God continues to work in that meeting place and in the hearts of the people.

I remember in past years leaving Spirit-charged meetings and weeping or rejoicing all the way home because a work had been done in me. An impartation of grace and deposits of truth were made in my heart. That is the real equipping. Equipping doesn’t happen through general knowledge, soulish babble, and motivational speeches, but through the operations of the Spirit of God.

Oh beloved, may we learn that praying ministers and praying saints make for powerful churches and ministries that can change the course of history.

The Journal Of A Journey To His Holiness and Prayer: The Language Of The Spirit are two books that are revolutionizing the prayer lives of believers. We highly recommend these two books to help stir and ignite a hunger for God.

“It is obvious from the very first pages that this book was written from a “place in the Spirit”. There’s such an abundance of truth filling the pages that I am consuming this book. I definitely will be reading it again and again! The prayer life that the Father has been calling me to is being transformed already.” – Amazon Customer

WHY REVIVALIST CHARLES G. FINNEY QUIT THE EVANGELISTIC MINISTRY

If you’re not familiar with church history you wouldn’t know that. Finney’s revivals and exploits in the Lord have been lauded, and its principles studied by serious Bible students. But what many don’t know is that Finney laid down his evangelistic ministry when his prayer partner, one, father Daniel Nash, died. He realized that Nash’s prayer partnership in the ministry was the key to his success. Oh, for such a high esteem for real prayer to be restored in the Church and its ministers today!

Charles Finney knew the power of praying with the help of the Holy Spirit. He had a great degree of utterance and the manifestation of the Lord in his revivals, and he knew where that supply originated. Although he himself was a man of deep prayer, he knew he also needed others like Nash to help give birth to the conversion of lost souls and the workings of the Holy Spirit in his revivals.

Who understands that today beyond just theory? Who has the experiential knowledge of it? Who really understands that soulish babble and the wisdom of man cannot capture the heart of any human being? There is a glaring absence of the power to convict and save in our meetings today.

A CONTRAST OF CHURCHES

Churches that have a high esteem for prayer, and pastors who value praying saints, and make a place for them in their churches, receive the highest return from prayer. Those who neglect it will struggle in the arm of flesh and build churches according to the strength of man. We’ve ministered in praying churches and recognize the difference immediately. The degree of liberty, utterance, power, and revelation is much higher in praying churches. There is a wide open door in the Spirit that greatly aids the ministry of the Word and the Holy Spirit’s gifts in these assemblies. The grace to open that door, and easily walk through it, is wrought by effectual prayer.

When you dishonor prayer and give it a low place, it works against the plans and purposes of God and hinders His power. How does that dishonor manifest? Through a lack of prayer and priority in the leadership. If leadership doesn’t pray and does not set the example in that area, how can they expect the people to pray? The apostles’ devotion to prayer and the Word affected everything in the early Church. Everything. It changed the atmosphere, created a praying church culture, gave impetus for other saints to pray, and set the tone for the power of God to continue to manifest.

Churches who don’t pray are led by leaders who don’t pray.

A certain woman had a dream of the prayer room in a particular church being infested with termites and insects that no one wanted to go in there and pray any  more. It lost its appeal. It was no longer attractive to go into that room and pray. Prayer had been neglected to the point of dullness and deadness. Deadness leads to spiritual heaviness and oppression. Spiritual deadness begets more deadness and repels the anointing to pray. On the other hand, life begets more life.

Here’s an interesting verse:

“Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, and cause it to give off a foul odor” (Ec. 10:1). The anointing of the Holy Spirit is like a sweet smelling perfume that is spoiled by deadness and formality, and man’s wisdom and traditions. Repentance for prayerlessness is the only thing that can break that curse, and turn the deadness into life, as people begin to pray.

Praying churches stand at the threshold of greater power in this day and hour.

Where can you see a revival that wasn’t started in prayer? Where can you see a move of God that has fruit remaining without anointed praying?

Neglect in prayer results in a lesser effectiveness in the pastor and ministry gifts edifying and equipping the saints. Honor for prayer is not enough, but the ministers and saints must engage in it by the Spirit of God.

In prayer the Spirit of God showed my wife and I the devastation and the lack of confidence and power that came to Charles Finney when father Nash went home to be with the Lord. My wife had a revelation and saw him with his head bowed over, for he understood the power of prayer that Nash supplied (when she saw this, her heart broke and she began weeping).

Recently I read Finney’s explanation of intercession with groanings and travail, and how it is compared to a mother whose child is sick and always on her heart. One has to think about lost souls that way to cultivate that kind of intercession and travail. Who has that kind of understanding today and is teaching it and demonstrating it?

You see, Finney was a bonafide Ephesians 4:11 ministry gift who was greatly ignited by the prayers of father Daniel Nash. There is a great correlation between pray-ers and ministry gifts. This is a spiritual understanding that few have, and one we will deal with in our next blog.

Stay tuned…

If certain elements of prayer and intercession and the move of the Holy Spirit are not passed on to the next generation they will be lost. For more on this subject, please refer to our book, Passing On The Move Of God To The Next Generation, and The Real Spirit Of Revival. Also, check out our Face to Face – School Of The Spirit weekly video sessions on our YouTube channel. Consider subscribing so you can be alerted on these sessions as they are posted. And lastly, don’t forget to register here for our upcoming Holy Ghost Forum in Salem, NH. Some of these forums are archived on our YouTube channel.

We’d like to also remind you of our upcoming new book release, The Real Jesus, where we highlight the differences between the Americanized version of Jesus vs. the Biblical Jesus. This is the fourth book in the Real series (The Real Salvation, The Real Gospel, and The Real Spirit Of Revival). Passing on these elements of prayer, revival, and the move of the Spirit is our mandate from the Lord. We hope you will take advantage of these resources as they were created with the body of Christ in mind. Be blessed!
