While we are debating and fussing over the two presidential candidates…while many so called prophets are prophesying the victory of their chosen candidate, even adding “thus saith the Lord” to their presumptuous utterances… while we concern ourselves with the peripheral consequences of what could or would happen if one candidate gets elected over another, the devil is plotting to steal, kill, and destroy us another way.

It’s almost like a special forces military operation in a time of war when they use the element of distraction in one territorial area to overwhelm with a surprise attack elsewhere. Do not be distracted by the strife and confusion this election is generating. Do not chase the enemy’s fires. Do not be deceived by the lies and false prophecies floating through the airwaves and cyber space. I have found that there are only a few who are speaking the true word of the Lord in this hour. Beware of the voices you are listening to. Hear ye what the Spirit of God is truly saying to your spirit. Judgment begins in the house of God (1 Pt. 4:17). And if you read that chapter in context it is speaking of suffering according to the will of God – suffering for righteousness sake, being reproached for the name of Christ, so that we won’t be judged with the world and with those who do not obey the gospel.

Amidst all the confusion and division in the Church over politics, the enemy is luring and working a hideous plan that could strike this nation suddenly and leave more death and destruction in its wake than we’ve ever known. If the Church doesn’t stop the argumentative rhetoric and give itself over to humility, repentance, brokenness, soberness, watchfulness, and a real spirit of prayer and intercession, we could see a fatalistic series of unprecedented events surrounding this coming election. There is even a possibility of martial law being declared because of the confusion and uproar it will create. Either way, there will be an uproar and there will be a level of suffering in it. How much? I don’t know. There are some things we can stop through prayer; there are other things we can only delay; and in some situations prayer will not stop or delay what is coming. For example, Jesus foretold of certain events, especially in the end of days, that cannot be stopped.

No American president can stop the things which have already been set in motion in this nation. There has already been a dishonorable sowing that we shall reap as a nation. But I believe we can short circuit the damage through prayer, and not through the election of any president. Remember, what God did with Saul of Tarsus He can do with either candidate (Acts 9). And what He did with King Herod he can also do with either candidate (Acts 12:20-23). Let us not forget that God did that during a time of great persecution and suffering in the Church (through Saul and Herod killed James etc.)

The most convincing argument many in the Church are making to vote for the lesser of two evils in Donald Trump is so that new conservative judges can be appointed at the Supreme Court level. This has caused fear, panic, and distraction in many believers. Even pastors and leaders are caught up in the fear and dissimulation of it. As important as the appointment of SCOTUS judges are, which have the potential to dictate the passing of certain laws that could further jeopardize and thwart our religious liberties, an element of it is masquerading a bigger plan of the enemy to get us off of real prayer, total dependence on God, and the advancement of His kingdom in the midst of national crisis.

I feel like we are living in a time similar to Jehoshaphat’s when Judah was surrounded by its enemies and had no might to stand against them (2 Chron. 20). Let’s face it; there is no human solution to the predicament our nation finds itself in in this hour. If Hillary Clinton is elected president there will an uproar and confusion. If Donald Trump is elected there will be an uproar and confusion. And if Obama declares martial law there will be an uproar and confusion. There will be riots in the streets and many will be killed. Regardless of who wins the presidency, Bible prophecy will be fulfilled in the world. Our answers are not in man. Our eyes must be totally and 100% on the Lord.

“O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You” (2 Chr. 20:12).

I don’t know about you but I have one president, One King, and He is the Lord Jesus Christ. My hope is not in the systems of this world but in God. Therefore, I don’t fear; I don’t panic. Our king has overcome even death itself and tasted death for every man (Heb. 2:9). Our kingdom is not of this world (Jn. 18:36). Why are we fighting over the kingdoms of this world? Why are we fighting over presidential candidates as if they are going to save the day? I have more faith in a child than I do over these liars running for office.

Do we really think that if Donald Trump wins the election our nation will be saved and our future in this nation secured? Who has bewitched you?  Say he does win, will the Church relax and be lulled into a deeper state of slumber and an even greater false sense of security? We got 8 years of Obama, but I dare to say as far as our obedience to the great commission is concerned, the Church is no better off than it was before he came into office. If you fear the consequences of a Hillary presidency then your motive is situational ethics and you are not even in the right state of mind and heart to pray or vote.

The essence of situational ethics is the primary concern over the outcome or consequences of an action. In this case, a Clinton presidency. I don’t want her to be our president either for she is a wicked and corrupt politician, but that is not my main concern. My main concern is being right with God and aligned with His statutes, precepts, laws, and plans and purposes. Let me ask you a pointed question: What unrepentant sin must a Republican commit before you stop rewarding them with your vote? Many are planning to vote based on situational ethics and not the righteousness of God.

For years God has been testing our free moral agency. For instance, I have many African American friends who voted for Obama. I pleaded with some of them about how their conscience could vote for such a wicked and corrupt man with the most unbiblical world view and antichrist spirit of any president this nation has ever had in its history. I know that statement alone will cause some to unfollow this blog and defriend me from their social networks, but I could care less. You who voted for Obama were judged by God for your evil choice, and if you haven’t repented yet you should do so now. Just don’t make the same mistake again. A vote for evil is a vote for the curse. Who you vote for reflects your values and affects your children. Yes, I believe a curse can come on your household and posterity because of who you vote for. I cannot vote for the lesser of two evils any more. I cannot vote for unrighteousness.

As a nation, we crossed a line when we voted a second time for Obama. Because of the unwise choice  of many we have reached a point of no return. But my concern is not so much for the nation as it is for the Church. I am now reserved to the fact that our nation will suffer and the Church will also suffer as a result. Just how much, I don’t know. But we must be prepared to suffer for the gospel, for the name of Jesus, and for righteousness sake in a way we perhaps have not suffered heretofore in this nation.

  1. Powerful point, Brother Bert–be more concerned about the state of the church than the state of the nation!

If ever there was a time to know WHY we believe WHAT we believe, it’s NOW. Time to dig out PC Nelson’s Bible Doctrines and review some foundational Truths. Only the Word will be our anchor when tribulation comes; everything else is self-righteous opinions built on sinking sand.

Yes, the election has been too distracting–time for me to focus solely on prayer and preparation. God grace your church to press into You! Give us clarity in this hour.

    God bless!

  2. I think we should look at the example of Cyrus who was used to deliver the Jews, even though Cyrus was not a believer in The LORD.

It is very important that people hear from The LORD before they assume something based on the PRINTED words in the Bible. Recently a person was arguing that you had to bless your enemies and pray for them, as a blanket rule. However we have the example of The LORD calling the pharisees snakes and whitewashed tombs. We do not find The LORD praying for them or blessing them.

Trump may not fit the christian religion mode. I think it is time to understand that the christian religion mode may not reflect The Will of The LORD in A RELATIONSHIP of The Father and us as in The Son Who reveals His Will for us and we follow Him, even though we may not fully understand His Reasons.

I never supported Cruz but always supported Trump. I also believe Trump will win in a landslide. My reasoning is not my guide. In fact I am glad he not the perfect candidate, the greatest debater etc. If he was he may have got the glory and not The LORD.

  3. The Word of The LORD is sure and never changes. After the blood moon last September, I have begun to see evil being exposed like never before, and evil being brought down. Just think of how Clinton’s emails were exposed together with the various frauds etc. Who ever thought that would happen. Another example is the exposure of the corruption in the media and people choosing not to believe them!

People do not give credence to the fact the 4 blood moons took place consecutively PERFECTLY ON A JEWISH FEAST DAY in April 2014, September 2014, April 2015 and September 2015. In my lifetime and in the lifetimes of many – this event has been the most prophetically significant.

it is a great time for the earth and we will see the greatest Blessings unfold as we honor Father and speak and believe His Word. Yes, there will be disasters and there will be the destruction of the establishment religious system and a cleansing of the earth, but that is PREPARATION for The LORD’s Rule in greater and greater measure.

  4. So true brother. I feel the same way. However I have to repent from the idea of voting for the lesser of 2 evils. Bless you for putting this out there for the church.

  5. Hi Brother Bert,
Another great blog, and I agree with the spirit and truth in it but I do have one honest question.
Obviously you aren’t advocating voting for Hillary (the Democratic platform itself is very evil), and you are not willing to vote for the “lesser of two evils”, which Trump be inference, would be, so are you advocating that we just not vote at all?
I have heard so many Christian leaders for my whole life teach that it is our responsibility and duty to vote as Christians.
I’ve also heard Dr. James Dobson say that Donald Trump has recently prayed to receive Jesus as his saviour, and, if nothing else, he certainly appears to be sympathetic to Christians/Christianity.
I understand the point of this blog is that we should not look to man, or politics, or goverenments of this world, but only to God, but, do we also have a duty/responsibility to vote and pray for our leaders and take part (by voting) in the election of our nation’s leaders?
I know many Christians refused to vote for Mitch Romney because he is a part of the Mormon cult.
The result, an Obama presidency, as you mentioned were disastrous for our country.
So are we to vote for the best available candidate, or do you think we should refrain from voting altogether because doing so would be choosing between “the lesser of two evils”?
Please respond as I very much appreciate your ministry and your opinion.
I have several of your books, I am reading the Real Spirit of Revival now, and it is terrific!
    Thank You,
    Yours in Christ,
    Brother Terry

    • Dear Brother Terry,

Thanks for your comments and question. I can tell you are very genuine. I will probably fulfill my civic duty and vote. I’m not sure how I will vote yet. Still praying on it. If I cannot vote for Trump in good conscience, it is possible that I will write in a candidate to keep my conscience clear while fulfilling my obligation to vote. I encourage fellow believers to just vote their conscience. At this point, God is our only hope. I believe in miracles and Divine intervention so we must pray and put our trust in the Lord. Who knows what could happen? It’s interesting that the fastest growing church is in China where they are still under Communist rule. Is America next?

  6. Learning Christians’ viewpoints on voting for Trump has been enlightening. I would never have expected complete harmony, but the splits are astounding. Some are Biblically wrong on all counts, others are adapted to fit the voters’ own opinion, others are cherry-picked. The common thread through them all is compromise. That isn’t much of a surprise, as we have watched the Church in the US compromise on anything that comes its way. Most recently, choosing a man who hates God over someone who loves and obeys Him, a clear- cut precept discussed extensively in the Bible, may bring that compromise home all too soon. As most of us are aware, Trump supporters aren’t interested in facts. Their votes were based on emotion and any discussion is based on emotion.

    • Maybe, just maybe sister, support for Trump is because someone is concerned about appointees to the Supreme Court where nominees could serve for decades and have a profound influence on our nation.
Have you reviewed the list of potential nominees to the Supreme Court that Trump has put forth?
Or maybe, just maybe, it’s because as a Christian someone believes in the rights of the unborn and does not want to support another candidate (Hillary) that vehemently denies any rights to unborn babies and wants publicly funded abortions (you and I get.to pay for this wickedness!) To the Third Trimester and beyond.
Or maybe a Christian wants to support someone who will be a friend to our only true ally in the Middle Easr, Israel, God’s chosen people and land, and NOT someone who will befriend, arm and send billions to Israel’s enemies who have sworn to wipe Israel off the face of the map.
There are real, non “emotional” reasons to desire a Trump presidency over a Hillary Clinton presidency.

  7. I, too, have wondered if something totally out of the box could occur regarding this election. Since division has been the theme of this election season, the breakdown of our political system that could result in someone essentially being appointed to the top spot, is not outside the realm of possibility. Whatever happens, believers will be challenged more than ever before to depend on God in the face of increasing opposition.

  8. It will be very interesting to see how this all comes out. I know we always go thru the process every 4years but I will be glad when it’s over, the media and lots of Christians have made this so much of their focus, you wonder if they ever think of anything else. There are other things we need to pray about also, I’m sure the devil is real happy with some being totally pre occupied with just the election. I know its importance but there’s a lot of other things we should be attending to also. It sure is meant to cause a huge division in the Church, that’s for sure, God help us!

  9. Excellent post Brother Bert! It is amazing that we are at this point after having such a variety of candidates at the onset of the election cycle. Now we have two unbelievably awful choices. People have cried out for change from the system we’ve had and here we stand. No true choice for believers because voting truly would be for “the lesser of two evils.” Your post was the third time I’ve been convicted of voting that way.( I have never prayed for guidance on voting as much as I have this year. ) I have to believe your post was the final confirmation for me. I am not voting for either candidate but I am going to vote for moral senate, house, local leaders. And maybe a write in, not sure yet.
I too have wondered if we are going to have a completely unexpected end to this race. Every time I’ve read how God has led His people so they would be victorious it sure was nothing anyone expected.
Thank you for your unapologetic challenging messages to your brethren. It is much appreciated!

    • Hi Lena! Thanks for your comments. I’m glad the post blessed you and encouraged you. We are living in perilous times, and we must work before the night comes when no man can work. Bless you!
