And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…” (Eph. 6:18).

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit” (Rom. 8:5).

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a Church of holiness, love, and power. She is to be a glorious Church (Eph. 5:27). It is the workings of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the saints that makes it that way.

There are basically two types of churches today: Flesh churches and Spirit churches. A flesh church reaps death and corruption but a Spirit church reaps life and peace. Churches that are worldly and revolve around entertainment and carnal fellowship are flesh churches. They have alot of hype, but little holiness. They have the glitter but it’s not gold. They have fake glory and smoke, but there’s no real fire.

In flesh churches the gifts of the Spirit are either not welcome or just not in manifestation. Churches that are birthed and grown through Holy Ghost prayer have Holy Ghost gifts in operation. Where Jesus is Lord and truly Head of the church you will find the real Spirit churches.

Holy Ghost praying is the doorway to the supernatural and where it all starts. Even Pentecostal/Charismatic churches are diminishing in power because of a lack of true spiritual praying. Tongues is not spoken of or emphasized in many of these churches.

A few years ago an interesting survey was taken to determine how often Pentecostal/Charismatics spoke in tongues. Results showed that only 15% used their prayer language daily and only another 7% weekly. Nearly 50% never use it.

No wonder we have so many flesh churches.

Praying with your own understanding is mental praying, which is limited to the realm of your own mind and reasoning. Praying in tongues is praying with God’s understanding, which is unlimited (1 Cor. 14:14-15).

Another survey was taken among 50 Pentecostal/Charismatic ministers. Only 10% of them prayed at least 15 minutes a day in the Holy Ghost. No wonder there’s so much showboating and fleshly preaching among ministers.

There’s a whole breed of churches that are ignorant about how the Holy Ghost works and moves. Many teachers are teaching the way of the flesh instead of the way of the Spirit.

There simply will not be much profit without Holy Ghost prayer. Who would’ve believed that one prayer group of 120 people in an upper room would’ve changed the world? God’s plan for revival has not changed. The pattern was set long ago. God changes the world through abiding Holy Ghost prayer.

I heard someone say one time: “The acid test of New Testament revival is the Church. And the acid test of the Church is prayer.” The quickest way to kill churches is to let up on Holy Ghost prayer or remove it altogether.

To say it another way, the spirit of prayer is the spirit of revival. The revival spirit leaves churches when Holy Ghost prayer meetings diminish or depart. Revival returns when Holy Ghost prayer returns. There is no other way. Let us not complicate the message of revival. It starts and is maintained with Holy Ghost prayer.

Satan has weakened and decimated churches through weakening the prayer life of the Christian in their homes and in their churches. Many churches still don’t have prayer meetings, and of the many who do, they are the weakest and least attended of all meetings. There is little to no Holy Ghost praying that goes on.

Once a Christian or a church lives in abiding Holy Ghost prayer then it must obey the great commission, and be about the Father’s business of advancing the kingdom of God. Preach the gospel! Sow the seeds of the Word. Sow the testimony of Jesus Christ. Heal the sick and cast out devils!

This is the standard and pattern of revival for every church. This is revival made plain and simple. This is what every church and Christian must be doing until Jesus comes.

Many churches are losing Pentecost as the early Church knew it and the Holy Ghost designed it. We are living in a day when man’s reputation has become more important than God’s glory. Social status and education are more highly esteemed than the gifts of the Holy Ghost and the power of God.

When I asked an 85-year Pentecostal minister the reason for a lack of power in the Western Church today he pointed to education as the biggest reason, citing Europe and America as the two greatest examples. Unsanctified intellect has robbed the Church of the power of God. Certainly education is important but not at the expense of the diminishing of spiritual life and power.

One foreign minister when he visited the American Church was asked what impressed him most. His response was very telling: “How much she has been able to accomplish without God.” We have conceded to natural means in our attempts to advance the cause of Christ. Showmanship and salesmanship seem to be at an all-time high.

Pentecostals and Charismatics need to return to their roots and stoke Holy Ghost fires real strong. And all mainline denominational and evangelical churches need to go to their upper room and receive their baptism of power with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.

PS (We’re off to Colombia to carry this glory and this fire there. What an honor! I hope I can blog a couple of times while I’m there, but our schedule is extensive so not sure how much I can. We would appreciate any extra offerings this month to help pay for expenses back home, and get us going early into the holidays strong this year while we’re overseas. Most small traveling mnistries like us don’t live on a fixed salary like most pastors do. The Christmas season can be challenging in this regard. We’ve always trusted God but we know He uses people. We appreciate your prayers and giving. You can give electronically through our donate button or by check to: Holy Fire Ministries, PO Box 4527, Windham, NH 03087). Thank you and God bless you.
